Picture from yesterday.

It's raining.

And I have to go out and feed the buns. But I don't mind, the rain keeps all the less-than-pleasant neighbors, kids and dogs inside.

Not sure if you can tell from the picture, but it's a steady rain. The rain barrel (hiding on the right, toward the back) will probably be full by morning.

The rain gets into the East side of the rabbitat, but that doesn't stop Bambi and Cinnamon sitting in their favorite spot, even if they do get a little wet.

Yesterday Bambi decided that she was bored and wanted to dig, but I don't know where she is trying to go....






The only reason she stopped is because I put a rock in there from a past dig. If she had gone UP when she past that board she would have been on Clint and Gerald's side. Which has happened before.

Oh and I really love it when they dig up huge betles, gets the huge spiders all excited. Yuck. I have actually developed a spider tolerance since having the rabbitat. Because of my handy broom they don't stick around long enough for me to get a picture.

Darn those teeth.

This morning after the buns had their breakfast I tried to get some gunk off of Bambi's eyeball. I tried the drops first; hoping it would move the gunk to the corner of her eye, but that didn't work. Then I tried a tissue. As I was on my knees, hunched over Bambi, Cinnamon comes over (like he always does) and tries to figure out what I am doing. He hops over to my other side and "CHOMP". "OUCH! HEY WHAT WAS THAT FOR??!!!!" Either I was in his way or he was trying to save Bambi from my evil clutches. I have been bitten before, but usually I deserve it because I am holding them, this time I wasn't even paying attention to him.

Tonight I decided that Clint and Gerald needed their nails cut. The best way to do this is to bring them in the house, where they are a bit more behaved because they are scared. I got Clint in a bunny burrito, hubby held the flashlight for me (his nails are dark) and got them all clipped, and he didn't budge. When I was done we looked at Clint and just laughed because only his head was poking out of the towel and his eyes were closed, and he wasn't moving.

Then it was Gerald's turn....

Let me repeat myself.....

BAD BUNNIES!

You all may find this amusing, but it really drives me crazy. Mostly because they keep digging around and under the cement posts that are SUPPORTING the rabbitat. I mean they are compromising the structure itself. It's bad enough that it has "settled" since we built it, and the mole has recently had a good time digging under it too, but do they really need to further weaken the structure???





I left the brick in the hole, and covered it with dirt. I am now out of bricks, and will need more when Cinnamon and Bambi start up again. I have even used some good sized rocks from my yard to fill holes, permanently.

Rabbitat...


Last year Bambi dug a hole that was so long I put my entire arm in the hold and didn't feel the end of the hole. She dug up 2 buckets full of dirt! Bambi was filthy, and had dirt everywhere....(check out the water bowl)...

Bad bunnies!

Need, more, bricks.

I open the drapes this morning and see Gerald, digging. I yell out the window: "GERALD, NO!" He perks his head up for a second, then continues. "GERALD!!". I fill the holes up, and he is right back at it this afternoon so I can fill the holes again after work.

So how long did that sod last??????????..........

Rabbitat problems

There are many problems and inconveniences with having animals outdoors 24/7. I will spare you the gory details as to why rabbits should not be outside and just go into the rabbitat issues.

In the winter I have a hard time keeping them warm. I put up walls, but it's so dark; we do have windows, but maybe need more. It rains a lot, sometimes the rabbitat floods. We did recently install gutters and a rain barrel, which has helped a little. The water bottles freeze. Blankets and straw is damp. Not to mention that it sucks to be outside in the freezing cold for over an hour for cleaning...

Summer poses other problems. Mostly bugs, spiders, fleas, flys, mosquito's and everything else. I don't use any bug killer at all in the rabbitat. Shoot, I won't even allow my husband to use toxic fertilizer because I track it into the rabbitat and house! I figure the spiders in the rabbitat help control the fleas and mosquito's. It also gets too hot in the rabbitat in the summer. It's always 10 degrees warmer. For example, on Monday it was about 71, when I checked on the buns at lunch time it was 80 in the rabbitat. A friend suggested putting white shingles on the roof, of course that suggestion is a bit too late. The bees or wasps (what ever they are, I don't know) love the rabbitat. We eliminate nests via a shop vac. Here is the current one hanging around.

Happy Birthday to me!

Unfortunately I had to work on my birthday (usually I take it off). So my hubby will take me out for a day of fun tomorrow! Yahoo! As a birthday gift to me, I ask all of you to click on the Free kibble link to the right. Thanks!

Oh, and the buns are doing good. Even if they have eaten all the grass.

Stitches are out

Took Bambi to the vet today. She had her stitches taken out. Everything looks good and she is healing well. Her eye still doesn't close all the way though. I am disappointed in that. She is still in the healing process, so we will see how she looks in a few weeks.

Bambi and Cinnamon are back outside

I really enjoyed having them in the house. But Bambi's true colors started to show over the last 2 days. She was digging in the carpet (funny to see really); she did no damage. She decided that all magazines and newspapers were particularly yummy. One electrical cord was in her way, so she picked it up with her teeth to move it. Yikes.

Cinnamon was always interested in what we were eating (Bambi was not). He loves ice cream; he also eats pretzel's and cookies. I only gave him the teeniest bites, but he ate it.

I started Gerald on his medication this morning. His eye was so goopy and crusty I brought him in the house to clean it (he wouldn't hold still for me if I tried to clean it outside). Bambi gets her stitches taken out tomorrow. Seems to me that she can't close her eye completely, but it is better than it was before. I have been putting an artificial tear in it every night.

With Bambi and Cinnamon in the house for a week, it gave the grass in the rabbitat a chance to grow. After a few hours the grass is already almost all eaten up....

Though he shows no visible scars now, he is shy, doesn't like to be pet or held. He still runs from me, unless I have food. I kept his name that the shelter gave him, Gerald. It suits him, he is like a old man, just likes to be left alone, sitting in his chair.

This morning I noticed he has a runny eye again. So the pasteurella is still in his system. I will probably be putting him back on medication in the next day or two.
