And for my next trick.

These guys never cease to amaze me. For having such little brains they sure get into things. Hubby and I heard all of this scratching on the wood that keeps the buns in the bathroom. I thought Cinnamon was standing on his hind legs scratching to get out with his front paws. By the time we went to see what the noise was Cinnamon was on the floor, on the other side of the wood, where he wasn't supposed to be. The little stinker jumped up, got his front end on the top of the wood and his back end got him over. The wood is 33 inches high! Bet he felt a bit bruised after that. I wonder if he will try it again.

Bad inside bunnies.

So I guess if they were bad bunnies outside they are going to be bad bunnies inside.

Could someone please explain to me the reason for rabbit pooping in front of the cat litter box??? While cleaning the poops I think I discovered pee. How can I tell if they have peed elsewhere and how do I put a stop to it?

Um, would someone please plow the roads?

Really some of the craziest stuff I have ever driven on. Not the scariest, just the craziest.

Binkys!

Despite Bambi and Cinnamon being bad bunnies, we have seen lots of binkys (binkies?) the last few days.

Baby it's cold outside.

Well, the buns have been inside for a week. It's been a rough week.

Clint and Gerald (aka The Boys) are in the garage and were stressed at first, they are better now. Unfortunately my plan of putting them out during the day has not happened because it has been too cold during the day. So I feel bad for them because they have no running room.

Bambi and Cinnamon are doing okay, they are definitely not behaving as well as they did last time they were in the house. Bambi can't seem to leave Cinnamon alone, she keeps humping him. I think Cinnamon might be getting tired of it, he seems to be fighting back a bit. I let them out during the day, but they have to be constantly watched, which I don't have time for. Bambi already chewed the phone cord to the new phone in the living room, she also likes to eat the artificial Christmas tree. Cinnamon likes eating the plants, which I just sprayed with perfume, so we will see if that continues.

I think when Bambi and Cinnamon have their own, permanent space (probably in the office) they will be happier and we will get a better routine going. I will head over to binkybunny.com to get advice from the gals over there. I have learned lots from them over the years. They also have some great bunny toys I will have to check out while I am there.

Those of you that have buns in the house, that are free to wander, if you have advice for me please email me at: kauai_sand@hotmail.com.

Here is the rabbitat this morning. Got 3 more inches of snow last night. It's been windy too.
Bambi and Cinnamon both love being under the tree. I told them not to eat baby Jesus (took me years to find a Nativity scene I liked). They are chewing on the pine cones though. Drat!

Not sure why they are both in the box, never seen them do that before.

Got da buns in da haauuse!

We have been thinking of bringing the buns in the house for some time now. Due to the impending "winter storm" this weekend we decided to bring Cinnamon and Bambi in the house. Temporarily they will be in the guest bathroom (where they have been before), until we come up with a permanent home for them. Clint and Gerald are in the garage. I will bring them in the garage when the temps are below 20 degrees (like this weekend and next week). I can't figure out how to get them all in the house, so we will do this for now. Here are some pics just after I brought them in tonight.Cinnamon is already trying to get out. I will let them run around the house when we are home. Right now Bambi needs to be supervised, and I still need to do some bunny proofing.

Patriotic Buns

Went to the thrift store recently and got some more blankets for the buns. This is one of them.
Now that it is colder I double, or triple up on the blankets, they love to get them dirty too, so I had to get more.

Little guinea pig went home, it was sad. Now I have my eye on the paper for one that needs to be 'rescued', none of the local shelters had any.

Pet sitting again!

I have the pleasure of pet sitting Baby. She is a cute little guinea pig, small compared to most. So far I have had her for 1 week and get her for 1 more. She is easy care, but messy with her bedding. She eats just about the same thing as the buns. Had to clean her cage today, so I put her in the bathroom where she chewed on part of the door, oops. Oh well. Here she is coming out of her cage for a little exercise.

Sarvey Wildlife Center

Today hubby and I went to Sarvey Wildlife Center to drop off some supplies. We have been meaning to go there for almost a year now. We brought them a huge bag of dry cat food, baby food, paper towels, fleece blankets, towels, bleach, and scouring pads. They let us go into the visitors center where they have owls, hawks, and eagles. The animals that live there are not able to be released back into the wild. They take in all sorts of wild animals, with the hope of fixing them up and releasing them. A few years ago we had found 4 baby ducklings, we brought them to Sarvey where they were fed and released when they were old enough.

We had the pleasure of being hissed at by this owl. I love owls.

Gerald is still sick

Gerald started showing symptoms of his pasteurella a few days ago, so I got more medication from the vet. He only takes his medicine with a small bit of mashed banana, he loves it that way actually. Here is a pic of Gerald two weekends ago, not too often I see him relaxed, he usually runs when I am nearby. He let me get a few pics before he bolted.
Bambi and Cinnamon the same weekend. I think they look so funny with their ears down.

Happy Birthday Bunnies!

Was I in the right place at the right time or what??!! Gerald is thirsty...

It's getting colder and darker now. We put up all the walls on the rabbitat to protect them from the weather. Though this October has been fairly good weather wise, it has been freezing at night. Buns have extra blankets and straw too.

Two of the walls have 'windows' and we plan on putting another one in so they can still get natural light. I go out every morning and night with a flashlight, and there is a small light installed in the rabbitat. I wish I could leave the light on for them during the day. Hubby still takes off a wall in the afternoon just so they get more light. When it gets colder we won't do that.

We got the rabbits 2 years ago this month. I have learned so much about rabbits in 2 years. I'm glad we have them, even if they do drive me crazy. Tonight I went out to feed them and found Bambi and Cinnamon completely dumped one of their corner litter pans. Thanks, I will clean that up after I fill in Clint and Gerald's hole....

When we pull the weeds, this is what you will see in the backyard. I love bunnies, and ladybugs too. Together, it's just perfect! One of my favorite finds at a garage sale last year. Says "Bunny Crossing".

Cinnamon is looking good

I just noticed last week that Cinnamon has put some weight on. Finally. He lost weight when he was sick and on medication (for almost a year). But he looks so good now; I'm so happy. He looks like he did when we first got him.

Clint lounging, I rarely catch him doing that!

This is some of the grossness I find while cleaning the rabbitat. You can't tell from the picture, but that thing is bigger than a quarter! NASTY!

So close to escape.

Well they really did it this time. The hole was 10 inches down and 3 feet across. If they had gone down a few more inches they would have cleared the hardware cloth that is buried, then a few more inches over and back up they would have been escapees.

Seems Gerald did most of the work this time. But I know they work together.

Of course they don't help me fill it back up. Took me about 20 minutes. I have to make sure it all gets packed in nice and tight since they were under one of the support posts. Clothes ended up in the hamper and I'm pooped out.

Got enough dirt up your nose Gerald?
So you see that sunkin part of the dirt, in the middle? That is where they went down, then to the right under the cement post.

Again and still....

digging. Clint was busy last night. He was still going at it when I went out to feed them this morning. Funny, he didn't have much of an appetite (he ate a few pellets and that was it). Maybe because he was covered in dirt. He had a pretty good hole dug too. I was able to get the small rake in it. Bambi is also digging daily, on the other side, but she is not getting too far, I keep adding rocks from the garden. Check out the dirt on Clint's nose....

Chew toy.

Cinnamon is a really good bun (compared to the others). He is not a chewer, or digger. Except when he is in the house, he loves the buttons off the remote. Which mostly belongs to my husband. So I tell Cinnamon what a good boy he is and next time be sure to eat the power button.

So far he ate a few buttons off the very top, page up, down, #3, #9 and a few off the bottom. Most buttons we don't use anyway, so we don't miss them.

Lazy afternoon. The boys are enjoying a snooze under their chair. I dare not get too close, or they will scatter.Got some new boxes for the buns while at Costco. Here are Cinnamon and Bambi checking out the new dig...
Then Tiki had to test drive the other box, before the boys got it.

Great weather.

The weather has been great bun weather the last few weeks. Not too hot, not too cold, just a bit of rain. Most days we haven't had to turn the fans on. Today I did though. Bambi and Cinnamon seemed to be enjoying the lazy day....
I had to bribe Gerald with a few Cheerios to come out and pose for me. I think it's just crazy how you can look straight at him and not see his eyes.
*BREAKING NEWS: CLINT JUST ATE AN ALFALFA COOKIE!!!!
I always give the buns a cookie after their dinner, Clint has turned his nose to these before so I don't bother offering them to him anymore. Tonight he seemed interested, so I gave him one, and he ate it. Crazy bun, why now? No one will ever know.

Funny.

So I'm not clever enough to come up with my own like Rabbits Guy, so I had to steal one, or two.

Dinner time!

Actually I feed the cats and rabbits breakfast and dinner; just split the portions in half.

The rabbits get 3 or 4 different veggies. I don't give them bok choy, they don't like it, which is too bad because it's cheap; they also don't like green pepper. Fruit just depends on what is on hand, but I make sure we have pineapple about every other week, as it's supposed to help pass/break up hairballs. They get a small pinch of oats in the morning, except for Clint (green food bowl) because he doesn't like them.

Cinnamon has this bad habit of dumping his bowl over. The problem with this is that he already takes so long to eat, when he dumps his bowl over pellets go everywhere and it takes him forever to find them. So here is my solution:

He still manages to lift the bowl, but not completely dump it over.

Came home on Friday and saw this:

The cat put his toy in the water bowl. He has done this before, but hasn't in a while. Cracks me up. It means something, I just don't know what.

Another hot one

Today was the 3rd hot day in a row. It was 80 in the rabbitat this morning when I went out to clean it (great way to spend an hour, sweating). Cinnamon and Bambi seemed awfully uncomfortable, so we decided to bring them into the house for the afternoon. (After my dad just asked if I brought them in the house and I said "no, only when they are sick"!) But they were really uncomfortable; Bambi was breathing hard and Cinnamon was in the dirt, on his side almost on his back (missed that great photo op)! So we brought them in and cooled them off. I put out a small wet towel, I think it helped cool them off.

Geez it's hot.

At least it didn't get as hot as it was supposed to; it was 80 in the rabbitat when I got home from work.

I was completely prepared for overheated bunnies today. Hubby checked on them at lunch time. Brought them fresh, cold water and turned the fans up.

This morning I put up more shade cloth and put out the frozen water bottles.

Each side (or rabbit pair) gets 2 bottles. I cover them with a thin baby blanket so the buns don't get all wet from sweaty bottles.

When I went out to the rabbitat Clint had both ears down, when I brought the bottles in only one ear (his good one) stood up. Silly rabbit....

Something wrong with wild bunny.

I was in the backyard tonight, watering the tree, and I look over and there is wild bunny. I was pretty close, she didn't seem to mind. She was eating the clover.

As I watched her I thought she was sitting funny, and her tail looked odd. I noticed she had poop stuck to her butt. I got the camera and took a few pics. Her right leg looked funny as she hopped away from me, kind of sticks out a bit. She didn't run from me either, I'm not sure that she could. I also noticed that she pooped lots, which rabbits do, you just don't normally see it coming out.

Unfortunately I have no safe traps (I have no traps at all). I don't know if she is a bun that hangs out in our yard often, or a newbie. Can you tell what's wrong? Should I try to trap her? Or just let wild buns be wild buns?
