Funny.

So I'm not clever enough to come up with my own like Rabbits Guy, so I had to steal one, or two.

Dinner time!

Actually I feed the cats and rabbits breakfast and dinner; just split the portions in half.

The rabbits get 3 or 4 different veggies. I don't give them bok choy, they don't like it, which is too bad because it's cheap; they also don't like green pepper. Fruit just depends on what is on hand, but I make sure we have pineapple about every other week, as it's supposed to help pass/break up hairballs. They get a small pinch of oats in the morning, except for Clint (green food bowl) because he doesn't like them.

Cinnamon has this bad habit of dumping his bowl over. The problem with this is that he already takes so long to eat, when he dumps his bowl over pellets go everywhere and it takes him forever to find them. So here is my solution:

He still manages to lift the bowl, but not completely dump it over.

Came home on Friday and saw this:

The cat put his toy in the water bowl. He has done this before, but hasn't in a while. Cracks me up. It means something, I just don't know what.

Another hot one

Today was the 3rd hot day in a row. It was 80 in the rabbitat this morning when I went out to clean it (great way to spend an hour, sweating). Cinnamon and Bambi seemed awfully uncomfortable, so we decided to bring them into the house for the afternoon. (After my dad just asked if I brought them in the house and I said "no, only when they are sick"!) But they were really uncomfortable; Bambi was breathing hard and Cinnamon was in the dirt, on his side almost on his back (missed that great photo op)! So we brought them in and cooled them off. I put out a small wet towel, I think it helped cool them off.

Geez it's hot.

At least it didn't get as hot as it was supposed to; it was 80 in the rabbitat when I got home from work.

I was completely prepared for overheated bunnies today. Hubby checked on them at lunch time. Brought them fresh, cold water and turned the fans up.

This morning I put up more shade cloth and put out the frozen water bottles.

Each side (or rabbit pair) gets 2 bottles. I cover them with a thin baby blanket so the buns don't get all wet from sweaty bottles.

When I went out to the rabbitat Clint had both ears down, when I brought the bottles in only one ear (his good one) stood up. Silly rabbit....

Something wrong with wild bunny.

I was in the backyard tonight, watering the tree, and I look over and there is wild bunny. I was pretty close, she didn't seem to mind. She was eating the clover.

As I watched her I thought she was sitting funny, and her tail looked odd. I noticed she had poop stuck to her butt. I got the camera and took a few pics. Her right leg looked funny as she hopped away from me, kind of sticks out a bit. She didn't run from me either, I'm not sure that she could. I also noticed that she pooped lots, which rabbits do, you just don't normally see it coming out.

Unfortunately I have no safe traps (I have no traps at all). I don't know if she is a bun that hangs out in our yard often, or a newbie. Can you tell what's wrong? Should I try to trap her? Or just let wild buns be wild buns?

"Gerald...."

"why is there dirt on your nose??!!"

"Oh, I see, you were trying to take the rabbitat down again."

"Don't bother hiding now, I know it was you. I just got home from my day of fun in Seattle, I look outside, and there you are flinging dirt everywhere."

I'm out of bricks, so I put a plastic milk crate in the new digging spot.
Say it with me now: "BAD BUNNIES!"

Molting, part 2.

It's raining again. And I still don't mind. I just don't like how it makes the rabbitat straw and blankets damp.

I brushed Cinnamon and Clint this morning. They hated it. I brushed them when they were eating, hoping they wouldn't notice, they notice. Clint usually gives in for a few seconds and lets me hold him with one hand and brush with the other. Cinnamon won't hold still for a second, he fights my every move. But I did manage to get a brush full off of each this morning.

We will clean the rabbitat later today. We are going to a baseball game tomorrow.

"Help me! I'm molting!"

I read somewhere that rabbits molt depending on the amount of daylight they are exposed to.

I don't know if that is true or not, at least not with my rabbits. Clint started shedding MONTHS ago, it was still cold and a bit dark. Gerald started after that, and Cinnamon started a few weeks ago. Bambi hasn't shed at all.

Because of all this shedding I make sure they get pineapple every day; supposedly it helps break down the hair, so they don't get a hairball stuck in their gut.

Right now Cinnamon looks like, well, like he is having a bad hare day.....

How can one resist such an ovbious pun?

Wild bunnies.

We always have wild cottontail bunnies hanging around. Over the last few months we have watched a baby bunny grow up. We have seen baby bunnies before, but only once or twice and never again. Here is baby bunny, and baby and adult hanging out the birdfeeder.

Pet sitting, part 2, with pics.

"You back again? Where is my food?"

Everything went fine tonight too. I really enjoyed it. I love pet sitting and hope to make it a full time job someday.

Of all the buns, I think Racer is the cutest.

Guess Princess didn't like me getting so close, so she went into her box, then she realised I had food.I really didn't get this close to Chico, I zoomed in. He still grunted at me when I got too close. But I wanted to pet him, he is so cute too!

Pet sitting for House Full of Rabbits

I have the distinct pleasure of petsitting 10 buns for House Full of Rabbits (Rabbits' Guy and Bunny Lady) for a short time. Bunny Lady made it easy for me, having all veggies ready and signs on all the hutches. My hubby even came with and helped out a bit, what a nice surprise that was! We had a great time. Everybun was well behaved.

Savannah hid at first, but came out for food. I pet her (her fur is like VELVET by the way) then she hid again.

Zoe thumped at me! But I don't take it personally, my own buns thump at me. Baxter seemed happy.

Racer was happy too.

Chico is just adorable and I wanted to pet him, but he was grunting, and I know that is a warning sign to back off, because Clint does that to me too.

Princess seemed disinterested (in us anyway, she was very interested in her food).

The Boys got pretty excited, as did Goldy and Benji.

That's all the news for now. Sorry I forgot the camera. I will bring it tomorrow....

Lounging.

It's not too often I get to see my buns lounge. Mostly because I don't spend a lot of time with them. When I am with them it's for feeding or cleaning, so they are in active mode. I was lucky today, when I was almost done with cleaning, I got this shot.

My cat loves corn.

Today I am venturing off the rabbit topic. For your entertainment, here is Gixr, my 11 year old tabby cat, eating corn. He has always LOVED corn. Any kind, off the cobb, canned, frozen, he will eat it, and he always knows when I am making it.

Gerald, a video.

Nothing too exciting. I was just trying out the video mode on my camera. If your speakers are on turn them down, I didn't realise it would pick up my voice so well. All the background noise you hear is a major freeway, it is about 150 feet from our backyard.

A day without digging!

I still haven't figured out what makes them dig on some days and not on others. But a no dig day is a good day for me!

A few months ago I bought some alfalfa cookies for the buns. I bought them to fatten Cinnamon back up. He lost weight when he was sick and on daily injections. He loves the cookies, and so does Bambi and Gerald, but not Clint. Cinnamon is still not as round as he used to be. This is Cinnamon finishing off a cookie....

Yum, cookies!!!

I don't like how Bambi's eye looks. The top half of the lid is getting swollen and red again, like it was before the surgery. And her second (inner) eyelid is always down a bit. I should take her in. Phooey.
