Bunnies need a better house

I have a new friend

A few months ago, on one of my visits to the vet with Raisin, I was in the waiting room and a wonderful bunny slave sat down next to me and we talked about our bunnies. Turns out he makes bunny treats. He gave me his card and just last week I finally purchased some.

I took Dora to see Santa this year. She did well, but wasn't too crazy about being there. Hoppy Holidays everyone!

 

 

A few more things about Jasper & Raisin

Unfortunately we don't have many memories about Jasper. We only had him for 3 months. What I do remember is that he sprayed me. He let me bathe him, in just a bit a warm water, with no fuss; I didn't get much dirt off of him because he was so matted. He and Raisin would always lay together and it would always be so cute. Sometimes I would tell my husband "come look how cute they are" because the camera was not always handy.

The day that Jasper died, a wild bun came to the back porch that evening, as if his spirit came to say good bye. It was a sunny July day and still light out.

Raisin was just super amazing. Always so sweet and funloving. I took him to see Santa last December, I think he liked the attention. I also took him to an Emergency Prepardness meeting for the Humane Society. There I explained basic rabbit care and handling and people were allowed to come up and pet him and practice proper rabbit handling. Raisin loved sitting on the dining room chairs, where Dora spends her time now. When he was moved to the living room he liked sitting under the small end table. He never destroyed a thing. One night I forgot to move the x-pen that is used as a gate to keep him in the living room, he had free roam of the entire house, but stayed in the living room.

Raisin also died in the morning, and that evening (it was still light out) a wild bun came running to the back porch. He stopped in the grass, looked back, then came on to the porch. He hopped around then took the 2 steps to the back door and looked in. Wild bun then stood up on his hind legs, still looking in; he did that 2 more times. If Dora had turned around and moved closer to the door she would have seen him. I hope that was his little spirit telling us he is ok. I told him to go find Jasper.

I miss them both so much.

Raisin is gone

He died this morning. I came out of the bedroom to start bunny breakfast and saw Raisin in his pen, on his side. I wrapped him in a blanket and put his stuffed bunny behind him for support. Told him he was a good boy and it's ok. I sat with him for a few minutes. Got up to call the vet and start bunny breakfast again, I think that is when he died.

He was one of the best bunnies we ever had. To me, he was also the prettiest, he was a Silver Martin.

He was bonded with Jasper, who died last year of something similar. Both were super sweet and mild mannered buns. They were not afraid of anything. I kept them (they did start off as fosters) because I knew they were special and I was afraid if they were adopted they would be separated.

They came to the shelter a mess. Skinny, dirty and stinky. They lived in our dining room with lots of light and space to play.

We did everything we could over the last few months to get Raisin better. I took him to 3 vets, even spoke to a 4th in California. 

I hope he is with Jasper now. We love you Raisin Man. I love you to the moon and back.

The Raisin Man

So much has been going on the last few months, and I haven't had time to blog about any of it. Mostly what has been keeping us busy is Raisin. He has been sick for months, with a mass in his gut. We have been to many vets, had lots of tests, meds and nothing seems to help. Most recently he had an enema, which seems to have moved the mass, maybe even shrunk it, but it is still there. Now we need to concentrate on getting some weight back on him.

I am making a scrapbook with my neice, she comes over once a week. She will frequently take breaks and visit the bunnies, always sitting down with Raisin. He loves the attention he can get from anyone.

Raisin has also been hanging out with Dora during the day. She is pretty active, and Raisin is not, so they are not together all the time. They get along but aren't quite bonded, seems she could take him or leave him.

Dedicated to Fez

Fez over at http://some-bunny.blogspot.com/ died. I don't have details. His wonderful human slave hasn't blogged in a while so there is no update there. But I know some of us followed the blog at sometime and didn't want his passing to be missed.


Fez touched my heart from the beginning because he was rescued from a meat farm, and, I fell in love with his EARS. Much love to you Fez and those that took care of you and gave you a great life.

We are back! 


After a short stint of no internet access, we now have it again. I see that blogger has changed and I had to download Google Chrome to blog. Will take me a bit to figure out all the new changes.


On to more important news. Clint is doing great. He still had head tilt, but is otherwise fine. Except that Gerald (who is old and has arthritis) discovered that Clint is weak and can be picked on. I always saw Clint and Gerald as equal. I never saw one being more dominant over the other like I do with the others. I guess Clint was the dominant one, now that he has recovered from his illness he is no longer. Gerald has decided he can chase Clint and pull fur, because of this they have been separated. They are still in the same room together, just separated by a pen (Clint has to stay in the pen, Gerald is free run). A few times a week I will let them mingle together, but have to stay nearby as Clint almost always panics even if Gerald has no intention of doing anything. So this is their life  now:

It's sad, often Gerald will stick his nose in the pen for Clint's attention. Gerald spends most of the day laying next to Clint's pen. I have tried some bonding tricks, but the results were temporary. 


Clint's head tilt is not bad, and has improved a bit over the last few months. 

All other buns are still doing great. Including the other 2 Reno Rabbits, Bambi and Cinnamon.

I am also wanting to bond Hazel and Raisin. But Hazel is aggressive to all other bunnies, so this is as far as I have gotten with them...
